Story of Lāhainā Town Surf Company
We started Lahaina Town Surf Company in 2016 when we realized that Lahaina didn't have it's own surf company. Then we quickly realized that thetr were a lot of local kids that didn't know how to surf, and some had never been surfing before. We wanted to change that. So we partnered with The Boys and Girls Club of Maui, Lahaina, and we paid for all of the Boys and Girls Club kids to attend surf lessons with a local surf school, every Friday after school. It was the first of its kind program!
Now we focus on providing free mental health events for Maui high school kids. We invite all of the high schools on Maui to attend. We make our events free to all of the kids that attend. Our last event was at the Hyatt Regency Ka'anapali. We had over 700 high school kids in attendance, we had every mental health organization that works with that age group, we had Teen Alcoholics Anonymous, along with other group, all to offer help to our kids.
Our goal is to show kids all of the resources that are available to them, and provide them with anonymous ways for them to connect with those resources.
